It is the invasion of the cutest kind. You see, when the weather turns warmer and the days are longer, cats get… frisky (if you know what I mean 😉 And now we are seeing the product of all that fun time: kittens. Of course they bring an abundance of awww and squee sounds for everyone, but their reality is not as adorable as their sweet faces may let you believe.
You see, some will have mommies to take care of them, but a large number of them will be left on their own. And it is impossible for a baby kitten to survive like that. They need nourishment every 2-4 hours, a warm spot to sleep in and a teacher able to help them learn how to “be a cat” when their parents are not around.
Here is the interesting part: YOU can be that teacher.
Shelters receive the brunt of the kitty invasion every year. In here, selfless humans work day and night to keep these babies alive in the hopes that someday all those cats will find loving homes. They always need help.
Are you ready to adopt a kitten? It’s not a decision you should come to quickly, adopting is a long term responsibility.
Sooooo… maybe you’re not ready for a full-time commitment (we know how humans fear that word) can you try it out first you say? Oh man, be prepared to feel the love because in shelter lingo “trying” means “fostering” and FOSTERING SAVES LIVES. You will have the wonderful opportunity to help a kitten survive, develop into a socialized happy cat and go to a new home. That’s like a gazillion karma points!
And if you like it, you’re in luck because next year it will happen again! WHAT?!
Can it be stopped? YES, by spreading the Spay and Neuter Message. Because a kitten invasion sounds like a good idea, but maybe for a movie?

Dr. Avocado, ¿qué hay con este pánico de “la temporada de gatitos ha llegado”? ¿Hay una invasión de gatitos de la que tengo que estar enterada? Gracias, Una humana en pánico
Es la invasión de las criaturas adorables. Ocurre porque cuando el tiempo se torna más templado y los días más largos, los gatos se ponen… frescos (sabes a lo que me refiero 😉 Y ahora estamos viendo los resultados de tanta diversión: gatitos en todas partes. El verlos los llena a ustedes de emociones incontenibles que dejan saber a todos como “squee” y “aaawwww”; pero la realidad de estos gatitos no es tan dulce como aparentan sus caritas.
Lo que pasa es que algunos tendrán a su mami que los cuide, pero la gran mayoría quedarán desamparados y solos. Y te digo, es imposible para un gatito bebé sobrevivir por sí mismo. Necesita alimento cada 2-4 horas, un lugar caliente para mantener su temperatura y una maestra capaz de enseñarle a “ser gato”.
Aquí llegamos a la parte interesante: TU puedes ser ese maestro. Suena bien eh?
Los refugios reciben la mayor cantidad de la invasión cada año. Allí humanos caritativos donan sus días y noches para mantener a estos bebés vivos con la esperanza de que algún día encuentren un hogar que los adopte. Siempre se necesita ayuda.
¿Estás listo para adoptar un gatito? No es una decisión a la que debes llegar sin pensar. Adoptar es una responsabilidad que durará años. No es para que cambies de opinión y lo devuelvas luego de par de días.
Pues si adoptar suena muy fuerte, ¿quizás prefieres tratarlo un tiempo a ver qué tal te va? Uff, prepárate para recibir amor del bueno porque en el lenguaje del refugio “tratar” es sinónimo de “acoger” y acoger significa SALVAR UNA VIDA. Tendrás la oportunidad de ayudar a este gatito a sobrevivir, a socializarse con humanos para así hacerlo más amistoso y fácil de adoptar. ¡Te digo que acumularás un millón de puntos para tu karma!
Y lo mejor es que si te gusta acoger, no te desesperes porque el año que viene ¡vuelve a suceder! ¿QUE QUEEEE??
¿No se puede detener? PUES SI, se logra regando el mensaje de la importancia de esterilizar a tu mascota. Es la única manera de bajar los números. Porque una invasión de gatitos suena súper, pero mejor en una película ¿no crees?
